Empire State Troops

State Troops form the main stay of your Empire army and are one of the most versatile core units in Warhammer. With sword and shield your ability in combat is second to only the elite Greatswords. A 4+ save in combat enables them to take a charge and also makes them a good place to shelter characters. Equipped with spears you will have a unit that can take a charge or hold a defensive position on the battlefield. Spears enable your men to fight in two ranks, so even if your first rank is cut down by a charging enemy, you will still have a chance to hold the line with at least 5 attacks back. Your final option is a unit of Halberdiers. Great on the charge, with +1 strength, they can inflict a great amount of damage. Halberdiers also function well as a detachment for units of Swordsmen or Spearmen, who are more likely to survive a charge than a unit of Halberdiers.
